Nature And Science Working For You

Our Story

The African Traditional Healer: Any Africans believe (similarly to the Eastern culture of Tao) that life forces are present in everything. This spirit or power is the essence of every living creature, natural event or inanimate object. These life forces all have their own personalities and cosmic place. Therefore, the preservation or restoration of health is impossible without them. traditionally, African people have used herbal and plant products as medicines and poisons in their struggle for survival.

A healer’s power is not determined by the number of medicinal plants they know, but by the ability to apply an understanding of the intricate relationship between the patient and their surrounding world. Unlike a Western trained doctor, the traditional African healer looks for the cause of the patient’s misfortune in the relation to his social, natural and spiritual environment. More than half of the Western drugs currently available are either directly or indirectly based on natural substances. In African societies ancient remedies are even more important as they form an essential part of traditional healing.

A Natural Alternative: Inkomfe uses a natural blend of ingredients, which creates a self-preserving system used in the inkomfe Special Scalp Wash and Special Scalp Care. The odorless and colourless combination of ingredients are as effective as a synthetic preservative, and are patented and present in the inkomfe Special Scalp Wash and Special Leave-On Scalp Care. This adds to the natural South African extracts that make up the inkomfe range, and brings with it the added benefits of a natural preservative system. The natural preservative system in the inkomfe Special Scalp Wash and Special Leave-On Scalp Care is less likely to cause an adverse reaction than a conventional preservative system.

chamomile has long been used and cultivated by Europeans and Americans. Marula Oil

the Marula Tree bears fruit which has been used as a source of food and beverage by the local tribes' people for centuries. The stone within the fruit contains several kernels, which are rich in oil. The fruit is only ready once it has fallen off the tree and is then collected, the oil being extracted by local farmers using pressing and filtering equipment. No solvents are used in a light refining process, and the presence of vitamins is thereby ensured, making the oil suitable for use in inkomfe products. Marula Oil is one of the richest natural sources of Oleic Acid, an essential component in the maintenance of healthy skin.

The Butterfly-pictured on the outer wrapping of our Inkomfe Skin Bar and on our Shampoo/Conditioner is endangered and until a few years ago was threatened with total extinction.  Thanks to a campaign in South Africa to save this species, the Brenton Blue Butterfly shown here and throughout our website, has a chance of survival.
